This is a land Island
covering 12sq.km. and 34km.
away from Baichay Tourist
Wharf. It has been inhabited
for a long time. Surrounding
the island are many
beautiful, sandy beaches. On
the island is Vanxuan
Mountain, 182m high. There
is also an ancient village
from the time of Halong
Culture, which covered an
area of 4,500sq.m. This was
Congyen Old Port, in the
trading area of Vandon in
the 11th century. There are
also the remains of old
ramparts from the Tran and
Nguyen Dynasties (17th –
18th century.)
In the past, local
people used to earn their
living by diving for pearls
on the bed of sea. These
pearls were famous for their
brightness and beauty. The
island was called Ngocvung,
‘the orb of pearls’.
Nowadays, local people still
earn their living by
culturing pearls.
Is
located in Baitulong Bay, 25km away
from Campha Town to the southeast.
In the 12th century, the island used
to be a busy and important center
for trade between Vietnam and
foreign fleets. Although it is far
from the mainland, there is a whole
complex of valuable historical
vestiges and relics found here, such
as: ancient communal houses,
pagodas, shrines and trade ports.
Particularly, the local community
has retained and developed the
traditional customs and typical
festivals of the northern fishing
villages.
Visiting the island, visitors can
enjoy the local seafood and beaches
of white sand, which is also used to
make glass.
